Today I have a fun and interesting interview to share with you that will show you how to stay motivated with your blog and move your blogging strategy to the next level.
This is my first interview series am conducting, and am going to interview one of the amazing personality on this blogosphere.
In blogging, you will face a lot of discouragement that might make you want to quit, but quitting is never the right answer, you need to work hard, strive harder to succeed.
I recently had the chance to interview Jenny Marston, who runs a successful blog at jenny in neverland as her full-time career.
Yes, you can learn from her if you want to motivate yourself while blogging. there are lots to learn about building your blog audience, generating traffic, and lots more.
Let get started!
Can you introduce yourself and your blog to my readers?
Hi there! My name’s Jenny, I’m a 27-year-old full-time blogger from Essex, England.
My blog primarily focuses on topics such as well-being, self-care, mental health, and personal growth alongside blogging tips and advice aimed at new bloggers.
Can you tell me some of your strength that really helped you in blogging?
I’m quite creative when it comes to ideas (not creative in the arty sense!) so that’s definitely a strength that’s
helped me in my blogging career when it comes to thinking of unique content ideas.
I’m also a bit of a workaholic – not sure if you’d consider that a strength but I definitely have a “never giving up” attitude!
What type of networking do you think is better to enhance your traffic to a blog?
All networking has it’s advantages. I don’t personally think there’s anyone specific way to do it as you can
increase your blog traffic in SO many different ways – which is what you want! You never want to be relying
on just one source of traffic.
What strategy do you think works well for you to get more traffic to your blog?
Although I’ve only really just started taking it seriously this year,
Pinterest is definitely a heavy traffic referrer
to not just my blog but so many others!
With the right Pinterest techniques and strategies, you really can skyrocket your blog traffic!
How much time do you spend blogging?
Crikey, I spend SO much time blogging!
It’s all I do really, so although I make a conscious effort to give myself down time and time away from my blog and my computer screen,
I’d say I spend an average working day blogging. This will include everything from writing posts, taking photos, pitching to brands, answering
emails, socializing and networking, admin tasks, and more.
A lot of people think that blogging is an easy way to make money online, do you have some tips for those
people who are interested in making money from their blog?
Absolutely! Although firstly, I wouldn’t say it’s an “easy” way to make money online but it’s certainly a viable
option for so many people now.
If you want to make money through your blog, you need to learn about all the different income streams available, from ad revenue, sponsored content, selling your own products, etc.
There are so many options!
And do your research. Learn how to pitch to brands and how to source your own opportunities.
Focus on your blog traffic and your DA score and continuously try and improve those.
Don’t be afraid to reach out to brands and PR’s yourself. Know your worth and your value.
What do you think is the best social media strategy for getting more visitors to a blog?
I think just making sure you’re active on social media. It’s called “social” media for a reason!
As well as adopting a solid Pinterest strategy, as I just mentioned, all social media platforms can contribute.
Do you have any side job apart from blogging or is blogging your full time profession?
Blogging is my full-time job at present
Would you encourage other people to start their blog?
Oh absolutely. Blogging is so rewarding, for so many reasons.
As a creative outlet, to network and socialise
with like-minded people, to earn extra money or even to start your own business from it.
As long as you’re passionate about it, that’s all that matters.
How do you motivate yourself to keep your blog running?
As it’s my full-time job, I kinda have to be motivated to get up every day and work. Like everyone has to.
But I just absolutely love what I do, so I want to get up every day and get straight to work.
Which I recognise is a very lucky and privileged position to be in. I love waking up in the morning and wondering what today has in store.
What do you think is the best service a blogger can provide to his reader?
I guess it depends on what your blog is about in the first place.
As there are so many services a blogger can provide
to readers, whether that’s information, a safe space, support, or a means of distraction.
But whatever you decide to provide for your readers, make sure you go all-in with it, so your readers really do get the most out of your blog.
What is your greatest failure and what do you learn from it
I honestly don’t see things as a failure. I like to look at “failures” as lessons instead.
Because there’s nothing shameful about trying something and it not working!
I had an online book promotion business from 2014-2017 (ish) which I closed down because I wasn’t enjoying it any more.
It certainly wasn’t a failure but it did come to an end and that particular experience taught me so much about organisation and running a business and how draining it can be at times.
I quit it because I wasn’t enjoying it any more and even that taught me that it’s OKAY to move on from something you previously loved if it’s not making you happy or giving you a purpose any more.
Can you name some of your favorite bloggers and explain why they are your favorites?
I have soooo many favourites. It’s so hard to pick but I’ll go with these 3:
Absolutely Lucy – because she’s hugely inspirational and has been one of my favorites ever since I started
blogging. Her blog is full of incredible travel-related content – especially solo female travel.
Lisa’s Notebook – because Lisa is one of the loveliest people on the PLANET and her blog has a little bit of
everything for everyone, including parenting, books, beauty, and well-being.
Chapters of May – she’s a new blogger that I’ve not been reading for very long but instantly became one of my
favourites because of her gorgeous photography and wholesome content!
Do you have any online course or ebook that you would like to tell my Audience?
Yes! I sell 2 eBooks, aimed at new bloggers to help them grow and succeed in this industry.
I released my first eBook, “A Beginners Guide To Blogging” in October of 2018.

and the second, “A Beginners Guide To
Growing Your Blog Following” in April 2019.

Both eBooks have recently had an entire re-vamp too!
You can find them both here: https://gumroad.com/jennyinneverland
What inspired you to start a blog?
I’ve been blogging for 7 years this year (I really can’t believe how quickly the time has gone) and I started
blogging back in 2013 because I was bored.
I know that’s such a lame answer but it’s the truth! I was in a really dark place with my anxiety disorder;
I’d just quit a college course (and lost £700 in the process), felt like I’d lost my future job prospects and had literally nothing going on in my life.
Then one day, when I was Googling book reviews of the book I was reading at the time, I came across a book
blog and instantly wanted to give it a go and have that place to share reviews of the books I was reading.
So, contacted the owner of the blog and they VERY KINDLY helped me set my own one up.
Although my blog has moved on from book blogging for some time now, they’re the reason I started blogging.
What is your greatest achievement outside of blogging?
I honestly think my greatest achievement in my life so far is coming out on the other side of my anxiety disorder.
Which lasted almost a decade and completely changed my life in every single way possible.
Although I still get flickers of that anxiety now, I was un-diagnosed in December and the feeling of not being defined by my anxiety any more is my greatest achievement.
What was the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?
As I said, I quit my online business back in 2017, and making that decision was quite tough.
My blog was just starting to really pick up in terms of income and collaborations so quitting something I knew I was good at and I knew I was making money from to go to something that wasn’t so clear cut at the time was quite a challenge.
But again, as I said, I wasn’t enjoying my business at ALL at that point and I knew I couldn’t keep powering
through just for the sake of it as it was making me miserable. It’s the age-old debate between your head and
your heart!
What action do you want the readers to take?
For my own blog, I’d love for them to just find something they’re looking for.
Whether that’s a specific piece of blogging advice, some support on mental health, or self-care if they feel like they’re struggling or even just a distraction from something going on in their life.
My blog is a warm, safe space for anyone and everyone and I try and make it as such!
What is the best advice you can give to a new blogger that is trying to grow their audience?
Be Yourself!
Seriously I know we hear that SO MUCH but it’s such an important piece of advice.
When you think about HOW MANY bloggers are out there, nobody wants to be reading the same piece of
content over and over again.
Put your own spin on things. Make your own mind up. Form your own opinions. And be unarguably yourself. That is all I can say to them.
So here, I have come to the end of an amazing interview with jenny Marston.
Ok, Jenny, it’s my pleasure of sharing some space with you here today, and thanks for sharing your blogging journey with our audiences.

Such a helpful blog, thank you! I must sort out my Pinterest!
Great post. Always love posts with insights that can help other bloggers grow. We are all in this together. That’s why I like the networking concept Jenny pitches. That’s been hugely valuable for me building a network of likeminded bloggers. I think the subject matter needs to overlap at least a bit, but as long as there is something in common, you can easily promote one another without creating confusion around your own brand.
Great interview. I love Jenny and it’s great to get all these tips from her 😊

This is a great interview. I have been following Jenny for a while now and LOVE her content. I love the discussion about trying something and deciding that it’s not the right path. I started in a completely different career and was actually doing well monetarily before deciding that it wasn’t for me. Changing careers meant a bit hit financially but I am SO much happier in the new career. It’s 110% worth it!
